Powerline On Guckert

I've really been dropping the ball as a VLWC member by not dedicating much attention to the Gannon/Guckert story because, really, I don't have anything in particular to add on top of what others have said. PowerLine-bashing, however, is a new hobby of mine, so I'd be remiss not to note that DC Media Girl has a couple nice takes on PL's take on Guckert. She also appears to have no permalinks. Via James Wolcott who linked to her thanks to her discovery of a truly appalling Ann Coulter quote. But what does one expect from Ann Coulter?

Who is Ann Coulter?

Was she one of Clinton's bimbos?

Posted by: monkyboy | Feb 25, 2005 8:52:54 PM

She's one of Joe McCarthy's bimbo's. Word is she bathes, liberally, in the blood of vestal virgins to retain her youth. She has been photographed supplicating and cavorting proudly at the grave of the "great man".

Was she one of Clinton's bimbos?

she was one of Ken Starr's elves.

and she thinks the OKC bombing is great source of humor. imagine how fucking hillarious it would be if this was a liberal baby.

"Conservatism and sadism have become indivisible." ...Wolcott

Ya know, if the right wing would just fake it more often, pretend not be cruel bastards & bitches, the left might be taken in and actually believe the right wasn't gettin off on torture and stealing old lady's pensions.

Any comments from the Left on the recent suicide bombing? The silence is deafening....

Bush's enemies are such liars about the Gannon issue. They can't decide what they're most "outraged" by.

If Guckert's a gay prostitute, that means he's not entitled to make a living as a journalist or to even have political opinions?

Oh, but it's the fact that he's a prostitute! A gay prostitute whose very presence in the White House press room is an inexcusable instance of Republican hypocrisy!

Grow up. Y'all are just mad because Dan Rather's leaving his evening news spot.

Wow, Al and Toby one after the other. All we need is Brett Bellmore and we'll have the Larry, Darryl, and Darryl of the Yglesias blog all in one place at the same time.

Looks like the GOP is opening its arms to people from all walks of life.

Well, at least Arafat wasn't here to see it.

Guckert/Gannon is the very prototype of rightist pandering. Militaristic drag, check. Sycophantic services rendered to mouthpieces, check. Fantasies of domination, yes, yes, yes, that's the way we like it, faster, faster...

Perhaps the point of this affair is the lengths to which our leaders will go to get a credulous audience, that would willingly swallow anything.

Toby:

Bush's enemies are such liars about the Gannon issue. They can't decide what they're most "outraged" by.

I used to wonder whether people like Toby (and Al, etc.) were actively lying, or whether the problem is that their brains don't work correctly and they're simply confused.

As time's gone by, I've realized it's more the latter: they honesty are unable to perceive reality. Thus, you can't really say they're "lying," since they're telling the truth as they see it. The problem is that what's in their feverish little minds bears so little resemblance to the world outside.

Thus, if you provided Toby with a written-out criticism of the Bush administration re Gannon, and then asked him to express it in his own words, he wouldn't be able to do it. He honesty cannot comprehend what the argument is.

At least, that's most of them. The smarter ones ARE lying.

"Any comments from the Left on the recent suicide bombing? The silence is deafening...."

Al, all the lefty blogs have fully reported Bush's remarks at his press conference on that subject.

heh

"Any comments from the Left on the recent suicide bombing? The silence is deafening...."

Huh? I believe the left has been quite vocal about Bush's attempt to destroy Social Security.

The Daily Kos posted at length on the suicide bombing, to actually answer Al's dumb-as-s**t trolling. I now feel certain that Al will go read that post.

Matt:

I like bashing Powerline too...their lack of resonsiveness is apalling...as well as their troglodyte world-views, and savage, atavistic Lord of the Flies mentality.

And that's the good things I can say about 'em...

Posted by: Mumon | Feb 26, 2005 9:15:02 AM

When the White House acknowledges that they need to look at Press credentialing, when the "Talon News Service" shuts down to "reorganize", and what should really be an embarrassing footnote refuses to die, perhaps it's to be expected that the best righties can come up with is "why do those lefties focus on the gay prostitute angle?" Just for the record, I'm all for gay hookers. And now I can sleep better at night knowing that Ann Coulter is, too. Just because Hot Military Studs aren't my taste doesn't mean they shouldn't be Ann's. I'm broad-minded that way. ;)

Dear Al:

As far as I can tell from my limited sources, e.g., a couple of major newspapers, a handful of blogs, and several television news organizations, the suicide bombing in Tel Aviv has apparently been widely reported. As far as I know, almost everyone other than those responsible for it think it's a bad thing. If form holds, nobody -- on any side of the political divide -- will have much of substance to say beyond "this is awful" and nobody -- again on either side of the political divide -- will have any useful ideas for responding to it. Harsh as that may sound, I'm actually not being critical here: there just isn't much to say beyond the obvious and, barring some intelligence coup, there isn't much to do, obvious or not.
Speaking of obvious, all that was a long-winded way of saying the obvious, which illustrates why nobody has bothered to say it.
Anything else you'd like to see addressed?

Al, go on over to the den of Leftism - Daily Kos - where a vigorous thread is debating the implications of the recent Palestinian suicide bombing. Why don't you look around first.

Posted by: Elrod | Feb 26, 2005 12:30:58 PM

Hi, Al. What seems to be the problem? Zizka has retired, but I can take messages for him.

Al and fake Al remind me of those old "illusion and reality" art films. What is really real, after all? Is the fake really more than the real, after all? Is Andy Warhol a greater artist than Michelangelo? Can we believe what we see, or is it all interpretation?

Philosophy is so exciting.
