Important Correction

Tom Maguire argues convincingly that the Economist story I cited here and here and that, in my opinion, made the Bush administration look absolutely awful, was, in fact, based on a pretty egregious misreading of what their source said. Unfortunately, this blog gets a good number of readers so a number of other sites picked up my post and word is now spreading around. Hopefully everyone will read this and likewise post corrections on their sites.

UPDATE: That's a very unclear correction, and this is an important topic. Contrary to what I've previously written, it is not the case that the Bush administration scuttled an anti-proliferation treaty in order to make it easier for Pakistan to enhance its nuclear arsenal.
