Bushisms DVD

I haven't seen the whole thing but this preview is really funny. Along those lines, while Noam Scheiber would never be so crude as to write, nor The New Republic so crude as to run, a cover story arguing that part of the problem with George W. Bush is that he's not smart enough to do the job, the story they actually did run (subscribers only, sorry) gets at basically the same problem from a different angle: The man doesn't make policies based on understanding arguments about policy. Even better, Noam has an entirely different list of screw-ups resulting from Bush's distinctive method of "understanding" the world.

That Noam, what a cutup:

Bush decided to go to the United Nations before invading Iraq mostly because Tony Blair had lobbied him hard for it, and Blair was a man with "cojones." According to Woodward, Bush was able to discern this by looking Blair in the eye. (Not, as you might think, in said cojones.)

This was nothing less that personal for the man. You know what I'm referring to. The UN has been very questionable in it's actions - no?

I recommend a short story/essay/whatever by Guy Davenport (title "Bronze Leaves and Red") in which the narrator speaks approvingly of Hitler. It's not quite as antic as the collected Bushisms of the Dumb One, but it is a pleasure.
