At My Own Expense

Just to show I can take a joke, see here, here, and here from Rox Populi, though I must take issue with the insinuation in one of the comments threads that I am anything less than a wholly genuine Le Tigre fan and very much in awe of the band's superior musical skills. More to the point of this site's main theme, also Via R.P. comes Jason Vest's interesting look at John Negroponte beyond the death squads issue.

Sorry to be all serious when everyone's being all meta, but it seems like the article is more about the office Negroponte is getting rather than Negorponte himself?
And this kind of confused me. .
In addition to previously disclosed names such as former CIA director Robert M. Gates, former senator Sam Nunn, and ex–attorney general William P. Barr, others who declined consideration include Retired General Tommy Franks, former CIA deputy director John McMahon, former NSA director and former CIA deputy director Admiral Bobby Ray Inman, and former NSA directors William Studeman and William Odom.. . . While all are undeniably politically conservative . . . (emphasis mine)

I mean, I know Nunn was from Georgia, not exactly a bastion of liberal democrats, but was he really politically conservative? Did he ever challenge anyone to a duel?

I am presuming the person splayed across Rox Populi's banner is the website's author. Please, please--April 1, 2005, let author of this blogsite have parody issue, complete with said author in ridiculous pose, a la George Costanza in "Art of Seduction." While I wonder what Wonkette will say, given her brief infatuation, my heart races at what emission will rocket forth from our beloved dellis.

Off message, butI just want to note that Yglesias is Da Man. Such elegant, lucid, pungent writing! Koufax, hell. Hold out Mencken's mantle for him
