Catastrophe Keeps Us Together
I know they're not cool anymore, and I know Pitchfork hates them, but I like Rainer Maria, damnit. Got their new album Catastrophe Keeps Us Together yesterday and it's good. You can hear the lead track on their website. That is all.

Matthew:
Welcome to getting old, where your favorite bands are washed up and the cool kids lambaste your taste.
I was recently ridiculed on a board for being "the kind of dude who probably still listens to DJ Shadow."
Well...yeah.

I think that happens around 25-26 years old (um, that's about when I bought ...Endtroducing, which puts me in Anon's category). I'm not exactly sure how old Matthew is, but he may have a year or two of still being one of the cool kids listening to hip music.

I don't love it like I love Long Knives Drawn, but I like it a lot. I'm in the middle of posting a bunch of videos from their recent Madison show at my site, if anyone's interested.

My last band played our last show with Rainer Maria quite a few years ago. Somehow, I forget that that makes them an "old" band, but it really does. I still love them, too. The new album is amazing. Screw the idiots at Pitchfork.

Dude, as much as I enjoy perusing pitchfork, those folks are as arbitrary as anything else. I don't understand why they've become the indie bible, except for a certain completist strain, one that has always run through the music nerd world, that pitchfork embraces. Anyway, Rainer Maria is pretty sweet and let no man say otherwise.
